TWU – Spartans Continue Homestand Against MacEwan

LANGLEY, B.C. – The defending national champion Trinity Western men’s volleyball team continues its homestand this weekend, taking on the MacEwan Griffins Friday and Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

THE WEEKEND STORY

  • TWU continues its homestand after winning both games during its home-opening weekend last week, defeating Winnipeg 3-0 on Friday (Nov. 1) and Saturday (Nov. 2).
  • The Spartans won both matches against the Griffins last season, with TWU winning both games in straight sets on the road in Edmonton (Feb. 8-9).
  • MacEwan comes to town after a bye week, which came after splitting games on the road at Mount Royal (W 3-2, L 0-3).
  • Spartans outside hitter Eric Loeppky (Steinbach, Man.) enters the weekend leading Canada West with a .455 hitting percentage.
  • Teammate Pearson Eshenko (Banff, Alta.) leads the conference in blocks per set, averaging 1.86, while setter Derek Epp (Saskatoon, Sask.) sits first in assists per set, at 10.43.
  • TWU is 10-0 all-time against MacEwan.
  • MacEwan compiled a 3-19 record last season, finishing 11th in Canada West.

About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country and track & field, as well as women’s rugby sevens. TWU also competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) in men’s hockey and as an independent team in men’s rugby.
