TRU – Men’s Volleyball Go Five but Still Look for First Win

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack went the full five sets but are still searching for their initial victory of the young Canada West men’s volleyball season.
The Pack fell to the University of Calgary Dinos for a second straight night at the Tournament Capital Centre.  This time the 3-2 decision had scores of 25-23,21-25,16-25,27-25,15-10.
The Dinos are now 3-1 on the season.
 
 SYNOPSIS

The WolfPack started three rookies in this match: Brody Kopec (1st year, outside hitter, Red Deer, AB), Corbin Ockerman (1st year, middle, Elk Point, AB) and Nimo Benne (1st year, outside hitter, Castricum, Netherlands).

Thompson Rivers was besieged by service errors and had 37 in the match compared to only 12 for the Dinos.  After dropping the first set, the Pack won the next two sets.  In the second set, Benne had four kills and in the third, he added five more.    He led the WolfPack on the night with 17 kills in 32 chances.

Charlie Bringloe (5th year, outside hitter, Waterloo, ON) had 14 kills in 40 chances and three service aces. Anton Napolitano (4th year, setter, Victoria, AUS) had 46 assists, 11 digs and three service aces while Landon Currie (3rd year, libero, Vernon, BC) added 11 digs and 5 assists.

The Dinos were led offensively by Mac McNichol (5th year, outside, Calgary, AB).  He had 10 kills including five in the fourth set.     Liam Kuppe (3rd year, outside hitter, Calgary, AB)  had six kills in 23 chances.  Tomas Sorra (3rd year setter, Toronto, ON) contributed 24 assists and 12 digs while Tyler Funk (1st year, outside hitter, Grande Praire, AB)  had 11 digs.

NEXT UP:

Both teams are idle next week and return to league play on Friday November 8th. Calgary is at home to the MacEwan Griffins while the WolfPack will tangle with the Alberta Pandas at the Tournament Capital Centre. It is a rematch of the first round Canada West playoff series where the Pack took the Pandas to a full three games before losing.
