Close matches and winning streaks on day one of Beach Nationals

August 16th, 2014 (PARKSVILLE, BC) – The weather was cooler with occasional drizzle for the opening day of the Canadian Beach National Championships in Parksville, BC. Despite the grey skies the 26 beach volleyball courts at the Parksville Waterfront Park were filled with exciting, action-packed matches.

The 88 teams, made up of 14U, 16U, and 18U age divisions, played three matches in Friday’s pool play rounds. Early games saw multiple teams go the distance with numerous final scores exceeding 21 points.

The boys team of Timothy Edge and Keaton Boughen from Langley, BC had a standout performance and swept all 3 of their games in the 18U division. Last year’s 16U girls silver medalists Darby Dunn and Tessa Neil are doing well in the 18U category and have netted 3 wins.

In the younger divisions the 16U girls team of Olivia Furlan and Shaunessy Hemens had a day filled with wins as they went 3-0, while in the boys 16U division Zec Johnson and Kaden Gamache went 3-0. The 14U girls team of Maya Mistry and Nicole Ramsden had a clean sweep of their pool play going undefeated for all 3 matches.
