TWU – Spartans Host Winnipeg in Home-Opening Weekend

LANGLEY, B.C. – The defending Canada West champion and No. 1 ranked Trinity Western Spartans women’s volleyball team return to Langley this Friday and Saturday for its home-opening weekend against Winnipeg at the Langley Events Centre.

THE WEEKEND STORY

  • TWU returns home after winning both of its games in the season-opening weekend last week, defeating Alberta 3-1 on Friday (Oct. 18) and 3-0 Saturday (Oct. 19).
  • The Spartans won last year’s season series against the Wesmen, as TWU took both matches in four sets on the road in Winnipeg (Nov. 9-10).
  • Winnipeg is coming off a pair of losses to UBC, losing 3-1 on Saturday (Oct. 19) and 3-0 Sunday (Oct. 20) at home.
  • Spartans fourth-year outside hitter Hilary Howe (Calgary), who recently represented Canada at the NORCECA Continental Championship, is first in Canada West with an average of 4.57 kills per set.
  • TWU third-year setter Dora Komlodi (Calgary) sits in second place for assists per set, at 9.86. Winnipeg’s Rylie Dickson sits in seventh, at 8.29.
  • The Spartans have won 28 straight matches against the Wesmen. The last time TWU lost to Winnipeg was Nov. 13, 2004 when the Wesmen completed a weekend sweep of the Spartans.
  • Winnipeg compiled a 4-20 record last season, finishing 12th in Canada West.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country and track & field, as well as women’s rugby sevens.
