TRU – WVB Sweep Brandon on the Road

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack are coming home unbeaten after their first two matches in Canada West women’s volleyball.
The Pack won their second straight match on Saturday (Oct 19) against the host Brandon University Bobcats. This time it was 3-2. The scores were 25-19, 22-25,26-24,22-25,15-11.

The WolfPack were led by Kendra Finch (5th year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC). She had 21 kills and 14 digs. She accumulated 22 points.
Avery Pottle (4th year, outside hitter, Uxbridge, ON) had 19 kills, 2 blocks and 10 digs. She had 22.5 points.

Olga Savenchuk (2nd year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) had six kills and four blocks. Abby Spratt (4th year, setter, Calgary, AB) had 22 assists while Anastasiia Muzyka (3rd year, setter, Poltawa, Ukraine) added 21 assists. Katie Ludvig (3rd year, libero, Kamloops, BC) 12 digs.

Middle Kyseniya Kocyigit (1st year, Byaroza, Belarus) had a team high 7 blocks and 12.5 points.

“Nice to get two wins on the road,” said WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm. ” That is important. I think if we would have executed a bit better we would have been out of here in three. We had a pretty significant lead past 20 in the second set and let it slip and let Brandon back into the match. To their credit, they took full advantage of that. They were scrappy and found their rhythym and their confidence and made it a battle. Hopefully we can learn from that and the importance of closing out teams when you have the opportunity. It is super vital. Overall, happy with the result. I thought Avery had an outstanding evening on the wing. She got the start tonight and was great offensively. Even on the defensive side of the ball she was great. She brought that competitive grit and dared to attack the ball. That was nice to see.”

Brandon was led by Rayvin White with 23 kills. Keir Fey had 15 kills and 15 digs. Alexa Shoults had 35 assists.

As a team, TRU had 56 kills to Brandon’s 53. The Bobcats had 12 service aces to TRU’s eight while the Pack had 13 team blocks to Brandon’s 11.
Thompson Rivers returns home to entertain the University of Calgary Dinos at the Tournament Capital Centre on Friday and Saturday (Oct 28-29).
