Thank you BC! Over 10,000 fans at the NORCECA championship!

TOWNSHIP OF LANGLEY (Tuesday, October 8, 2013) – The 2013 NORCECA Men’s Volleyball Continental Championships came to an end on Saturday night (September 28) with the United States of America taking home the gold in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-14) win over Canada.

Throughout the week the crowds continued to grow as the 9 competing countries including USA, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, St Lucia, Guatemala and Canada all enjoyed a memorable experience at the Langley Events Centre. Fans showed their excitement with every great rally as they displayed their appreciation for each country that stepped onto the floor. Canada’s own Rudy Verhoeff played a huge role in electrifying the crowd every night with his impressive blocking game and his efforts won him two awards for Best Blocker and Best Middle.

In the final Canada was unable to avenge a 3-0 loss to the USA at the Olympic qualifier in May of 2012, which would have sent them to the London 2012 Olympics. However the final did live up to the hype in the first set as 4,097 screaming fans had lots to cheer about in a very tight opening set. The monstrous crowd created an atmosphere that will forever be remembered but unfortunately it didn’t end the way Canada was hoping. The USA took home their first NORCECA gold since 2007 and Canada settled for their fifth silver medal but first since 2003.

Overall the event was a huge success as a total of 10,527 people came through the Langley Events Centre during the week. Each night there were more fans pouring in with Canada inching closer and closer to playing for gold. In addition to the fans inside the LEC there were 10,522 people who took in the event across the globe via webcast.
