Pro Beach Tour leaderboards taking shape as tour heads to Parksville June 18-19

After two events on the Volleyball BC Pro Beach Tour, the chase for the Pro Tour Championship title is in full swing. Currently, there is a three-way tie atop the Men’s leaderboard with Alex Russell, Dan Caverly, and Jonny Wiskar all tied at 362 points. BenFeist (357), Steve Nash (357), Joel Cashetto (356), and Krystian Wetulani (356) aren’t far behind the leaders, and if any teams don’t make the trip to Parksville, the leaderboard could see a big shakeup.

On the Women’s Pro Tour, Juliana Kaufmanis has had two strong finishes and is currently holding the top position, but she won’t be competing after Parksville due to an exchange program, so that leaves the top spot open as the season progresses. Teammates Quinci Birker and Darby Dunn are currently in second place with 361 points each, and the team of Tammy Thomas and Rachelle Thomas are just three points back at 358 points each.

The Volleyball BC Pro Beach Tour features pro volleyball athletes competing in five signature events from May to July in three regions of British Columbia with a total prize purse of $25,000. The Men’s and Women’s tour champions will each receive $1,000 at the end of the season. The $1,000 tour championship title is awarded based on cumulative points, so it’s necessary for athletes to compete in all five events to be eligible.

The Parksville Pro event will take place June 18-19 at the beach courts at Parksville City Park. The event is expected to include a good number of local island teams, including some strong teams travelling up from Victoria. The Parksville Pro has a prize purse of $2500 ($660 – 1st, $340 – 2nd, $160 – 3rd).

Registration for the Parksville Pro closes Monday June 13, 2016 @ noon so there is still time for teams interested in playing to register. Register here.
