Hundreds of teams compete in High School Beach Open events across BC

June 4-5 marked the first youth beach volleyball events of 2016 with separate High School Beach Open tournaments taking place in Vancouver, Parksville, and Kelowna! The three tournaments combined make up one of the largest weekends of youth beach volleyball in Canada!

The Vancouver Island tournament consistently sets records for the number of teams participating and this year 157 teams from grade 6 to 12 took part in the event. Dover Bay Secondary was the most represented school at Parksville Beach Park with 32 separate teams participating. In the Okanagan this year, 32 teams converged on Kelowna’s downtown city park to compete in blue skies and hot sunshine! Kelowna Secondary was the HS with the most teams participating in the tournament.

At the Lower Mainland event in Vancouver, 119 teams from Grade 8 -12 played matches on Saturday and Sunday at Spanish Banks Beach. 50 different high schools were represented at the tournament with Elphinstone Secondary having the most (9 teams).

Congratulations to all of the 2016 High School Beach open participants! It was a perfect sunny weekend of volleyball and the level of competition continues to grow every year!
