Canada wins 3-0 over Guatemala!

International Volleyball is back in Langley

After one full year of preparation, the Norceca Men’s Continental Championship was officially inaugurated on monday night. The nine competing delegations participated in a march at the Langley Events Centre. The Canadian National Anthem was sung by local young artist Cambree Lovesy. Members of the Organising Committee as well as representatives as well as the Canadian Government welcomed the delegations from the Bahamas, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, USA and also the host team Canada.

USA 3-0 SAINT LUCIA (25-12, 25-10, 25-11)

The United States defeated Saint Lucia at the Norceca Men’s Continental Championship Opener in straight sets (25-12, 25-10, 25- 7). Troy Murphy finished with 13 points to be the top scorer for USA, while David Lee socred 10 and Micah Christenson concluded with 7. Saint Lucia’s Jospeh Clercent and Julian Bissette scored 6 apiece.

CUBA 3-0 BAHAMAS (25-16, 25-12, 25-7)

Cuban Senior National Team had no problems to begin the Rodolfo Sanchez’s era. The Cubans defeated  The Bahamas 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-7) with Rolando Cepeda as their best weapon with 10 points, including 3 aces. Inovel Romero and Jorber Quintana scored 9 apiece. Prince’Tanique Wilson was the best scorer for the Bahamas with 8 points.

CANADA 3-0 GUATEMALA (25-10, 25-10, 25-10)

The hosts of the Norceca Championship, Canada, won 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-10) against Guatemala in the last match of first day of competition. Gavin Schmitt scored 12 points (including 2 aces) for the Canadian team while Rudy Verhoeff finished tallied 11. Guatemala’s Andy Alexis Leonardo scored 11 points for the Central American squad that will face Mexico on Tuesday. The other two teams that will take action on Day 2 are Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.
