The first tournament of the VBC Tournament Series took place this past weekend! The Kits Classic Pro was on Saturday with the semi-finals and finals on Sunday morning. The Kits Classic Amateur was on Sunday.
On the women’s side, the McNamara twins (GOLD) were very strong all tournament, beating Rachelle Thomas / Tammy Thomas (SILVER) in the finals. Jo Braun / Kumi Chow (BRONZE) won their bronze match against Stacy Clark / Jana Weir.
On the men’s side, it was a UBC dominated gold medal match between Jared Krause / Alex Russell (GOLD) and Johnny Wiskar / Matt Lebourdais (SILVER). In a close three-setter, Dan Caverly and Brett Weninger (BRONZE) won their bronze medal match against Jon Galloway / Sean Casey.
In the amateur tournament, Portland’s David Vorobets and cousin Roman Onishchenko won the men’s division while Chhase McFaren / Wes Webb earned second place. Kits Beach veteran Chris Roine and newcomer Sarain Soonias won bronze over Tim Nicholson and Danny Moore. Jennifer Scott / Stephanie Welyhorsky won gold on the women’s size, with Tess Parent / Alice Yang taking silver, and Katie Zulauf / Dee Lee winning bronze.
The level of competition was strong at Kits Beach, as the majority of teams trained hard throughout the winter, both at the gym and on the sand at 6 Pack Indoor Beach. Next up is the Kits Pro and Kits Am, taking place at Kits Beach next weekend, June 6 and 7. Be sure to come check out the action and support your VBC athletes!
