2016’s BC long weekend was filled yet again with beach volleyball as Volleyball BC hosted its annual Big West Volleyfest 3-day Tournament at Spanish Banks East. With 8 different tournaments and competitions offered, Spanish East saw 40+ courts set up to welcome a variety of athletes and teams comprising of Youth, Adults, and Masters!
Both our Youth and Adult Beach Provincial Championships took place on the Saturday and Sunday, with hundreds of athletes looking to place on the podium. We also featured a one-day tournament for the Masters category to compete for the number one spot.
We gave away over $12,000 worth of prizing over the weekend, including products like Waterproof/Sandproof wireless speakers, champagne bottles, HP backpacks, Volleyball BC exclusive t-shirts, trophies, and cash cheques!
Youth Beach Provincials Results – Youth Beach Provincials Final Standings
The Adult Pro and Amateur Beach Provincial Championships also took place on Saturday and Sunday. For the pro teams in the tournament it was a chance to have their names added to the Provincial Championships alongside some big names (including Wilt Chamberlain)! The men and women came to play and after a long two days of competition, 2016 Vancouver Open Bronze medalists Wooding/Chow took the Women’s Championships over Braun/Friederich, and former 2015 Provincial Champion Wiskar and new teammate Del Bianco won against Poissant/Bayntun for the Men’s Championships. The Amateur Beach Provincials saw Mens’ Klein/Ando and Womens’ Hastings/Li take home the gold – they may be looking to compete in the Pros next summer!

Once again due to popular demand, we scheduled the Big West Volleyfest Coed 4s tournament – we had another fantastic turnout! Congrats to Coed 4s team Pamplemousse for the win against Wrecking Balls. Third place was Spicy Ginger and her WasaB’s
Sunday featured all the King/Queen of the beach formats for Youth, Amateurs, and Pros. 14U Girls QOB saw Rachel Dumonceaux take the throne. Shane Davis won the Masters KOB, while Foltlynova Miroslava won for the Women’s Amateur QOB.
KOB and QTB’s All-in-Pro format rewarded the winning individuals the total cash from the registration costs of all the Pro participants ($800 for Men/$650 for Women). Jared Krause won on the Men’s, and Kumi Chow, fresh off the Provincials gold, won on the Women’s. The coed 4’s teams and the masters, amateur, and youth KOB/QOB tournaments generated a lot of smiles and some tired players, and even a few backflips and tennis at the end of sunny long weekend!
