Team BC High Performance Update

Congratulations to all Team BC players on the outstanding finishes at the National Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) and Western Elite Championship  this past weekend!  After 3 weeks of training, teams traveled to Regina, Winnipeg, and Gatineau for competition.  The National Team Challenge Cup is an annual inter-provincial championship featuring the top 18U athletes (women – born in 1995 or later) and 19U athletes (men – born in 1994 or later) from each province.  The Western Elite Championship (WEC) is a top-level volleyball competition for “Learning to Compete” athletes in Volleyball Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). The WEC has been held annually since the 1980’s. Athletes competing in the WEC represent one of four Western Provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The participating female athletes are 16 years old and younger and male athletes are 17 years and younger.

Canada Games Teams:

Our Canada Summer Games Beach teams have been doing well. This past weekend, Nicole and Megan McNamara won a bronze medal at U19 USAV High Performance Championship, going 7-1 and losing only to the top US National Team that recently won a bronze medal at the U19 World Championships. They also won a Bronze Medal at the ClearlyContacts.ca Open July 14th. Our Men’s team (Dan Caverly and Ben Chow) came 7th at the ClearlyContacts.ca Open, 3rd in the Pro-Series # 2, and 1st in Pro-Series 4.

Our Canada Summer Games Men and Women’s teams have been busy preparing for the Games in Sherbrooke. Our Men’s program have been meeting on weekends in Abbotsford since in March, with a trip to the US Open in Kentucky (finishing 7th). They have just arrived in Kelowna last Friday for final preparations and training.  Our Women’s team have been training in Kelowna since July 8th.  The team left July 22nd for Florida and they will compete in the USAV High Performance Championship and train with the University of Central Florida to prepare for their trip to Sherbrooke.  You are able to live stream the event at this website (http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/High-Performance/Indoor/HP-Championships/2013-HPCs).

The CSG Indoor teams will compete August 3-8th, with the Beach team competing August 12-17th. http://www.jeuxducanada2013.ca/en/  Matches will be livestreamed and gold medal matches will all be shown on TSN.
