Kits Pro and Amateur draw big crowds in the sun

Vancouver may be north of the 49th parallel, but for the start of June, British Columbia has felt more like Hawaii. The beautiful weather made for perfect conditions at last weekend’s Kits Pro and Amateur beach volleyball tournaments.

The Kits Pro kicked off the action on Sunday with 32 women’s teams and 29 men’s teams taking part in the one-day tournament. The action was spread over the length of the beach and spectators lined the boardwalk to watch the competitive play. Roxy night club and The Peak 102.7 had booths at the event and were handing out fun items and water (which was greatly appreciated by the athletes). Temperatures soared by mid-day and there was fierce play-off action on the hot sand.

The McNamara sisters were strong throughout the tournament and were able to fend off Liau Kent/Kaufmanis in a three set final to win the event. On the men’s side, the team of Caverly/Krause were able to defeat Gotch/Russell for the men’s title and prize purse.

On Sunday, the Kits Amateur took over the beach with 29 women’s teams and 16 men’s teams. The sun was out again and the amateur athlete’s enjoyed an amazing day of volleyball at Kits. McLaren/Roine defeated Hull/Hendry for first place in the men’s amateur and Windhorst/Flink defeated Boyle/Cuddington for first place in the women’s amateur.

Volleyball BC would like to thank all of the athletes who took part in this event and we look forward to seeing you at the upcoming tournaments and the Big West Volleyfest!
