High School Open beach tournaments break records

The Beach Boys sang “Be True to Your School”, and last weekend High School players from across the province represented their schools in Volleyball BC’s HS Open Beach tournaments. Events took place in Vancouver, Kelowna, and Parksville and included grades 8 to 12.

In Kelowna, the event was hosted at City Park Beach and featured 63 teams with athletes traveling from as far away as Cranbrook to particpate. Eighteen different high schools were represented and tournament conditions were perfect with lots of sun and blue skies. Check out the results and photos from this event!

Over on Vancouver Island, a record number of teams traveled to Parksville Beach to make it the biggest HS Open in Volleyball BC history. 145 teams from Powell River to Victoria participated in the Island High School Beach Volleyball Championships. This total tops last years number of 133 teams. Full results are posted online. The next event held in Parksville will be the first Sand Series of the year June 20th, 2015.

At Spanish Bank East in Vancouver,  138 teams took part in the Vancouver HS Open representing 50 different high schools with MEI, Moscrop, and Langley Christian having the largest proportion of teams playing. While the sunny conditions made for some hot sand, a breeze off the water kept the temperatures comfortable and the athletes put on a great show for the beach crowds.
