Team BC Girls win Western Elite Championships

The Western Elite Championships was held in Edmonton this past weekend. The girls team had a great weekend with both teams fighting for a medal and one of them coming away with a gold. Both teams started strong with Team BC Red and Team BC Blue winning their pools 2-0. Heading into the playoff round Team BC Red beat Sask Green and Team BC Blue beat Sask White to reach the semi finals. Both teams faced the Alberta teams and the games were hard fought with Team BC Red beating Alberta Blue and Team BC Blue losing to Alberta White.

The bronze medal match was a well played game with Team BC Blue eventually losing to Alberta Blue. The gold medal match had Team BC Red beating Alberta White and winning the gold medal. The All Star team included Hallie Drezet from Team BC Blue, Gabrielle Attieh from Team BC Red and the MVP of the tournament was 15 year old Keira Van Ryk. Teagan Johnstone was voted Most Improved Player.

The Team BC 17U boys teams came through pool play 2nd in their pools, both with loses to Alberta. The quarter finals had Team BC Blue matched up against Manitoba White and a tough loss dropped them out of the medal round. Team BC Blue went on to beat Manitoba Black and then played Sask White and won to end up 5th. Team BC Red won their quarter final match up against Sask White to move onto the semi final. They came up again Alberta Blue in the semi final and lost a hard fought match. They played in the bronze medal match and lost to Manitoba White. Selected to the All Star team was 15 year old Coltyn Liu.  Braden Jones was voted the Most Improved Player.
