 QUEEN OF THE BEACH (WOMEN’S 2 VS 2) – Spring 2024

This is a Women’s 2 vs 2 League (9 weeks) that takes place on Wednesday evenings at Spanish Banks East/ Kitsilano in Vancouver. Players register as individuals and are placed with 4 others each league evening.

If you are unable to attend all league nights you can split your spot with another player but they must be added on Sportlomo (ONLY REGISTERED designated subs can move up). They must be added PRIOR to the start of first league night.

If this is your first time registering for our league you will start on court 12 and lower. All RETURNING PARTICIPANTS will be placed according to 2023 final week standings.  If you had an injury in 2023 and had to withdraw your standings will be similar to where last played spot.

 

League dates: April 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, June 5, 12, 19

Priority Registration for Spring/Summer 2024 will be given to those who were registered in the 2023 Spring/Summer Leagues.

Priority registration starts on Monday, February 26th – March 1st.

*You are not required to purchase any additional Volleyball BC membership to participate in our Adult Leagues, Clinics, and Tournaments.

Program Information

Queen of the Beach – Spring 2024 will run unless otherwise stated by BC Government.  If your team is registered and chooses to suspend a week(s) you will NOT be refunded the session(s) if the league is allowed to run.

Rules | Format

Format

  • 4 players per court – 25 point rally point games, teams switch sides every 10 points.
  • 5 players per court – 21 point rally point games, teams switch sides every 7 points.
    Win by 3 Cap at 23.
  • 6 players per court – 15 point rally point games, teams switch sides every 5 points.
  • No breaks on switches.
  • Players must record their scores on the score sheets at each court.
  • Results will be based on matches won versus lost and any ties will be broken by points won versus lost between respective players.  If players are still tied, court rankings will be taken into consideration.
  • Teams will be re-ranked each week, moving up and down between pools.
  • 1st place – Up 2 courts
  • 2nd place – Up 1 court
  • 3rd place – Stays on court
  • 4th place – Down 1 court
  • 5th place – Down 2 courts
  • Please find a sub if you’re unable to play.  Subs cannot move up.  The best a sub can do is third; however, they can come in second and stay on court 1.
  • Playoffs will take place during the last week of league play. (ONLY REGISTERED designated subs can move up). They must be added PRIOR to the start of the first league night.

Rules

  • Teams are responsible for refereeing themselves.  Please be honest.
  • Service may take place anywhere along the end line between the extension of the court sidelines.
  • Teammates must alternate the serve each time their team earns a sideout. It is the responsibility of the players to know whose turn it is to serve.
  • The ball may be contacted no more than three times in succession by a team.
  • The block counts as a contact.
  • A blocker who made the first team contact while blocking can then make the second team contact, after which only one more contact is allowed.
  • The ball must cross over the net between the antennae to remain in play.
  • While crossing the net, the ball may touch the net, even during the service action.
  • A player may not contact the net with any part of his/her body or clothing.
  • Incidental contact of hair is not a fault.
  • It is not a fault when the force of an opponent’s contact of the ball hitting the net causes a player to contact the net.
  • It is not a fault when a player has incidental contact with posts, support cables, or referee stands.
  • A player may cross under the vertical plane of the net to play the ball if he/she does not interfere with the opponents’ ability to play the ball.  Interference results in a point for the opposing team.  No player may interfere with an opponents’ play.
  • Multiple contacts with the ball are allowed on the first contact if they occur during one attempt to play the ball.
  • The ball may be contacted with any part of the body; however, service must take place with the hand or arm.
  • Beach digs are allowed on hard driven balls.  Serves and hits lifted by the block or the net are not hard driven balls.  A hard driven ball may not be carried or allowed to come to rest in a player’s hands.
  • No open hand tipping.
  • Setting:
    • The ball must be contacted simultaneously by both hands and it is not allowed to come to rest.  Spin is not an indicator of a fault.
    • A ball does not need to travel in the same direction as the setter is facing; however, the setter cannot hold or carry the ball to change the direction of the set.
    • When the ball is intentionally set over the net (forward or backward), the player’s shoulders must be square/perpendicular to the line of flight.
