TWU – Spartans Defeat Wolfpack at David E. Enarson Gym

LANGLEY, B.C. – The defending national champion Trinity Western Spartans defeated Thompson Rivers in straight sets in preseason play.

The Spartans who were playing at their old home on campus at the David E. Enarson gymnasium, defeated the WolfPack in straight sets in what was TWU’s first official preseason contest.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Ben Josephson
“Classic preseason volleyball where we saw some really good stuff and some other things we need to improve and work on, but that’s why we play these games. To find opponents that play different than us, apply pressure and expose issues that we can take back to the lab and figure out.

“We saw a bunch of great things today that we’ve been working hard on that are showing well. It was also nice to get this match played at the David E. Enarson. Lots of nostalgic memories playing here, and while it’s tough playing under that roof, it’s always great to be on campus.”

NOTABLE
• With the win TWU improves to 30-3 all-time against Thompson Rivers, having won their last 14 consecutive matches against the WolfPack.
• Thompson Rivers is coming off a 2018-18 Canada West season in which they finished tied for sixth in the conference with a 11-11 record.
• The David E. Enarson Gymnasium was opened in 1969, which at the time of its construction was the largest such facility in the Fraser Valley.

UP NEXT
The Spartans continue their preseason next Wednesday (Oct. 2), heading to UBC to take on Mount Royal as part of the Blue Team Cup (Oct. 2-5).
