TRU – Wolfpack Women Move to 7-1 with Sweep of Regina

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team have ended the pre-Christmas portion of their Canada West season with a sweep.
After taking the University of Regina Cougars 3-0 before 1300 fans at the Tournament Capital Centre on Friday (Nov 15), the Pack came back and beat the Cougars again in three straight. The scores were 25-14, 25-19, 25-11.The WolfPack move to 7-1 on the year while the Cougars are 1-7

Thompson Rivers was led by Kendra Finch (5th year,outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC)  with 10 kills in 27 chances, 14 digs and four service aces.

Regina’s main offensive weapons were  Diana Lumbala (5th year, outside hitter, Moose Jaw, SK) and Emma Matheson( 4th year, middle, Saskatoon, SK)  with six kills in 31 attempts and 15 attempts respectively.

SYNOPSIS:

The Cougars outblocked the WolfPack 2-1 in the first set but it was Thompson Rivers who won it thanks to a pair of kills from both Finch and Erin Mutch (2nd year, outside hitter, Victoria, BC).
In the second set, TRU led from wire to wire although Regina did cut the margin of their lead to a pair at times. Britt Davis (4th year, outside hitter, Sherwood Park, AB) had a pair of kills for Regina.
  Finch had four kills for the WolfPack while Kseniya Kocyigit (1st year, middle, Byaroza, Belarus) and Olga Savenchuk (2nd year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) had two kills a piece.
Regina jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third set before the WolfPack responded thanks in part to a long service run. She started serving with TRU leading 16-11 until the end of the match during which time she had three service aces. The match ended on a kill from Savenchuk.

Mutch wound up with seven kills in 18 chances.  Anastasiia Muzyka (3rd year, setter, Poltawa, Ukraine) had 20 assists, four digs and two block assists.

Katie Ludvig (3rd year, libero, Kamloops, BC) was named “The Den”  Leader of the Pack player of the match with 11 digs .

Elizabeth Tooth (3rd year, setter, Winnipeg, MB) had 14 assists, a service ace, and five digs for Regina.

The WolfPack will take their show on the road next weekend as they will visit the Thunderbirds at UBC in Vancouver (Nov 22-23).   The Cougars return home to entertain the University of Calgary Dinos.
