TRU – MVB Go 1-1 on Exhibition Coastal Swing

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball team finished off a weekend exhibition tour to the Lower Mainland on the short end.

The Pack were playing the Trinity Western University Spartans at their old gym on Saturday night (Sept 28). The Spartans beat Thompson Rivers 3-0.
The scores were 25-19,25-21,25-20.

Kyle Behiels (5th year, middle, Edmonton, AB) had six kills and a service ace. Corbin Ockerman (1st year, middle, Elk Point, AB) had five kills.

“We played good volleyball until the latter third of the match. A combination of nerves and Trinity raising their level of play was the difference,” said WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly.

On Friday night (Sept 27), the Pack were at UBC where they took the Thunderbirds 3-1. The scores were 25-18,25-19,25-27,25-21. Nimo Benne (1st year, outside hitter, Castricum, Netherlands) led the way with 10 kills , 3 blocks and two service aces. Kyle Behiels had five kills and three blocks.

Hennelly praised Landon Currie (3rd year, libero, Vernon, BC) for his passing skills as he notched five digs. ” The team took a step in the right direction and kept pressure on UBC from the service line, ” Hennelly added.

Next up for the Pack is a home and home series with the UBCO Heat starting October 4th in Kelowna, BC.
