New Title Sponsor Introduced for VBC’s Biggest Tournament

Local Vancouver business expands it’s support to Canada’s largest beach volleyball cash prize event.

5 July 2016 – 3:15 pm PST

Volleyball BC, the provincial sport organization coordinating the Vancouver Open Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that they will be proudly announcing Dunbar Cycles as this year’s event title sponsor.

In its 25th year hosting at famous Kits Beach, the 2016 Vancouver Open – Presented by Dunbar Cycles will feature 64 of the North America’s top male and female beach volleyball duos. The free to watch tournament boasts a prize purse of $15,000 – the largest beach volleyball cash giveaway in Canada. The July 15th to 17th event will undoubtedly be an exciting one to attend.

Dunbar Cycles is no stranger to the sports events scene having had sponsorship exposure in the National Dunbar Summer Mountain Biking Series and the BC Lung Trek, which they have supported on-site for over 30 years. Owner Rob Venables, also a Volleball BC adult leagues member, has been an avid volleyball player since competing at the collegiate level at Douglas College and at the University of British Columbia. Already established as one of Canada’s foremost mountain bike shops with exceptional customer service, Dunbar Cycles is excited to expand their outreach and community support this summer to the pro beach volleyball stage.

“We’ve been in the community supporting cycling and worthwhile causes for so many years,” said Venables. “I’ve learned and gotten so much back from the volleyball community growing up, and sponsoring the Vancouver Open has been one of the things I’ve always wanted to do. It’s a great way to give back to the sport that has given me so much over the years. Our goal is simple, and it’s to just let the rest of our active community know that the Dunbar Cycles team will be there when they need us.”

Sponsorship opportunities with the Vancouver Open had been initiated several weeks prior, but the Dunbar Cycles title partnership officially came to life literally hours after Venables stepped off the plane returning from Sao Paulo, Brazil, where his team won Silver in the Global Cup Masters Indoor Volleyball Tournament for Canada. Volleyball BC CEO Chris Densmore, applauded Venables’ creative sponsorship idea to partner the cycling and volleyball scene together, “I see Dunbar Cycles as a great fit for the title sponsorship of the Vancouver Open. They are a local company that prides itself on creating a sense of community with their customers, which aligns very well with what we strive to do with our own members”

The qualifying tournament begins on July 15th, with the main draw and playoffs starting on July 16th. For more information, visit
