Kris Mccrea and Devon Dunn Selected for U19 Worlds

Kris McCrea and Devon Dunn, of Sideout Beach Volleyball Club, have been chosen to represent Canada at the U19 World Championships in Portugal this July.

Kris McCrea has been playing beach volleyball for six years and achieved consecutive gold in 14U and 15U Provincials, bronze at U16 Nationals, silver at 17U Provincials and tied for 5th at 17U Nationals. McCrea will attend UBC Okanagan in September where he plans to continue training for indoor and beach volleyball.

Devon Dunn has been with Sideout Beach from the beginning of his beach volleyball training three years ago. In 2012, he earned gold at Provincials, silver in the BC Summer Games and bronze at Nationals. Dunn will start at Douglas College in the fall.

Dunn and McCrea are preparing for the event with coach Kyra Iannone. Though first partnered together this year, the two have trained in the same group for several years and Iannone remarks their potential for the event:

“Kris and Devon have worked so hard to reach this point and have all of the technical abilities that they need to be successful at this level. I am very excited to see them compete on the World Stage and follow in their coach, Ben Chow’s footsteps…very proud and excited!”

The pair will compete against 32 teams at the U19 World Championships in Porto, Portugal on July 11-14, 2013.
