Beach Nationals Competition Wraps Up in Parksville, BC

Parksville, BC – Three days of competition came to a close on Sunday (Aug. 16) in scenic Parksville, where 84 teams battled for beach dominance at the Western Canadian Beach National Championships.

“There was a very strong caliber of play; the hours of practice by these young athletes definitely showed on the sand this weekend,” said Volleyball Canada’s Director of Domestic Competition, Chrissy Benz.

Five provinces were represented in 18U, 16U, 14U boys’ and girls’ divisions. “With strength and depth at the 16U girls division (32 teams competed), there are a number of teams to watch in the coming years,” said Benz.

Despite the mixed bag of outdoor conditions; athletes and fans enjoyed a relaxed beach atmosphere and well-run event.

Volleyball Canada recognizes key sponsors including Wilson, lululemon, RE7 and Ipanema; and the contribution of Volleyball BC’s Adrian Goodmurphy and Bethany Farnell, as well as summer staff and volunteers, especially during challenging weather conditions on Friday afternoon.
