Full Time Positions

Content Designer

We are looking for a qualified, enthusiastic and multitalented self-starter who will be responsible for the creation and project management of graphic design projects for digital and print collateral, as well the content creation of event photography and videography for the organization.

The successful candidate must be available to work weekends and evenings, as well as regular office hours. Our offices are located at the Harry Jerome Sports Centre in Burnaby, BC—home to six volleyball courts dedicated to adult and youth recreational and competitive play.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Photography and/or Film
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working at an agency, organization, print house and/or in similar roles. Freelancers are welcomed to apply but all applicants must include a portfolio of work.
  • Proficient in working with both Apple and PC computers and their respective programs
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Intermediate experience of producing print materials
  • Working knowledge of WordPress web development
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • A self-starter that can work independently
  • A team player that is receptive to design feedback
  • Ability to work under a variety of strict timelines due to event-based activities

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design and manage print graphic collateral for the organization and its ongoing events

  • Receive creative requests from staff via the Communications Manager, and coordinate the creation of assets with these staff and vendors
  • Report on the production of assets to the Communications Manager for budget and tracking purposes
  • Support in the set-up of signage on-site at events; if not on-site, communicate instructions to the appropriate teams

2. Design digital creative content and other graphic tasks

  • Work with the Communications Manager to create content for the organization’s social media platforms
  • Create and produce additional collateral as directed (e.g. t-shirts, new logos, etc.)

3. Create and manage the production of photo and video assets for the organization and its events, including live streaming of major tournaments

  • Work with the Communications Manager to determine requirements (i.e. conceptualization and strategy, sponsorship content, etc. )
  • Manage the pre-production of photo/video content as required (i.e. scheduling interviews, gather required assets, preparing consent forms, etc.
  • Execute the production of photo/video content (i.e. work with the team on-site to shoot content and capture requirements)
  • Complete post-production of photo/video content (i.e. edit and optimize photos/clips, master sound and work with the  Communications Manager and staff to approve final product)
  • Export and prepare photo/video content for various multimedia platforms

4. Work with staff and our web developer(s) to support the maintenance and troubleshooting of the organization’s website

  • Utilize current and up-to-date photos, videos and graphics for website
  • Work with all staff to keep websites current with upcoming programs and events
  • Work with the Communications Manager, CEO and web developer on creating our new website
  • For troubleshooting, provide qualitative feedback (I.e. screenshots and step-by-step reproduction of issue) to web developer
  • Communicate with the web developer regarding timelines and communicate these details to the Communications Manager

5. Assist the Communications Manager in the planning and execution of ongoing initiatives, activities and campaigns

  • Support the completion of ongoing tasks related to the operations of the marketing department such as content strategy and development, event planning and on-site execution, vendor and sponsorship management, budgeting and expenses, etc.

Member Services Manager

Volleyball BC is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic individual that will establish and maintain organizational partnerships on behalf of Volleyball BC. This role and its duties are focused on the recruitment, retention, renewal, tracking and reporting of schools, companies, associations and other partners and sponsors that become registered VBC members. 

The successful candidate will be an outgoing and articulate individual who is used to working in a team atmosphere. He/she must be available to work weekends and evenings, as well as regular office hours. Our offices are located at the Harry Jerome Sports Centre in Burnaby, BC—home to six volleyball courts dedicated to adult and youth recreational and competitive play.

Temporary full-time (one year with possibility of extending into a permanent position)

  3. To work with the Communications Manager in help signing organizations that are interested in providing discounts to Volleyball BC members.
  4. To work with and support the Regional Development Manager in delivering of member services to the club volleyball system
  5. To coordinate and deliver the organization’s Annual General Meeting

Part Time Positions

League Coordinator

Volleyball BC runs Adult Indoor Leagues in the fall (September until December) and winter (January until April) seasons across the Lower Mainland.

Successful candidates will be outgoing, responsible, and hard working.  Responsibilities include assisting with net set-up, hosting captain’s meetings, communicating with league participants, collecting scores, scheduling, updating the website (including league standings on Google Docs), and facilitating prize giveaways.  League Coordinators will be in regular communication with the Adult Program Manager.

League Coordinator Positions

League shifts run from 6:15pm until 10:30pm at HJSC. Richmond Secondary will run 6:45pm – 10:15pm, and Tupper will run 6:45pm – 10pm.  Some additional administrative work may take place outside of these hours.  League Coordinators will be paid $65/night for HJSC nights & $40/night for Richmond or Tupper.

HJSC Facility Attendants

The Harry Jerome Sports Centre (HJSC) is accepting applications for Facility Attendants. These positions are ideal for post-secondary students looking for regular weekly shift(s) that complement class schedules.

Hours
This is a part-time position.  Shifts are:
Weeknights (Mon-Fri) from 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Weekends (Sat & Sun) from 8:00 a.m. – 4:-00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Ideal candidates are able to work at least one week night and one weekend shift per week.

A regular weekly schedule is set at the beginning of each term. Staff are expected to cover their weekly shifts and switch/cover nights as needed for flexibility.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Facility Manager, primary responsibility include maintaining facility operations and janitorial duties while assisting with facility events and providing customer service.

The position responsibilities may include:

  • Providing assistance and customer service to facility patrons
  • Working with rental groups to facilitate activities
  • Nightly cleaning and restocking of bathrooms
  • General facility cleaning and janitorial duties
  • Ensuring the premises are secure
  • Facility opening/ closing duties
  • Assisting VBC office staff with various projects
  • Completing financial transactions
  • Providing first aid attention and related paperwork
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Facility Manager

This position requires individuals who are able to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Qualifications

  • Reliable—must cover your shift(s) each week
  • Friendly—superior customer service skills as you represent Volleyball BC
  • Familiarity with the sports tournaments and player draws an asset
  • Standard First Aid Certification an asset

Summer Staff Positions

Our summer programs involve over five hundred teams playing in weeknight leagues and three hundred teams playing in weekend tournaments from April to August.  We are looking for enthusiastic, qualified individuals to coordinate our summer programs.  Successful candidates will be outgoing, responsible, self-motivated and strong team players.  Staff must be available to work weekends and evenings as well as a few office hours.  They must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, doing some heavy lifting, and interacting with participants, staff, and volunteers.

Summer Staff Positions:

  1. Full-time Event Coordinators (up to 5 positions)
  • 35 hours/week for up to 20 weeks at $15.00/hour
  • April 15 – August 31 (start and end dates are flexible)
  • Responsibilities:
    • Coordinate events including: facilitating leagues and tournaments, set up and take down of leagues and tournaments, website upkeep, administrative office duties, planning social events, supporting high profile tournaments, completing event report forms, equipment inventory, coaching, and maintenance.
    • Marketing/promotion including: recruitment of participants, ongoing communication with participants, and special event promotion.

  1. Lower Mainland Summer Student (1 position)
  • 35 hours/week for up to 20 weeks at $15.00/hour
  • April 15 – August 31 (start and end dates are flexible)
  • Responsibilities:
    • Assist in coordination of youth beach tournaments and clinics including: promotion, registration, organize & set-up equipment, provide customer service for coaches & participants, develop schedule, record results
    • Assist with high performance development including: delivery of 14U & 16U Baden Cup Selection Camp, provide input for coach selection, assist Lower Mainland Regional Manager with administrative tasks
