Jim Clive, Volleyball BC Hall of Fame inductee, was on hand last weekend to watch Pro and Amateur players take part in the inaugural event named in his honour. Jim Clive helped make Vancouver’s Kits Beach one of the most popular beach volleyball venues in the country, and this weekend was no exception. The 60+ pro teams came out hungry for the chance to see their name engraved on the cup, and we saw ultra-competitive matches in the dazzling sunshine both Saturday and Sunday.
In Sunday’s gold medal matches, the women’s team of Quinci Birker/Darby Dunn showed great passing and control in their win over Ramsden/Maglio in 2 sets (21-13, 21-15). In the men’s gold medal game, the strong jump serve of Jared Krause and the blocking of Alex Russell was enough to hold off Wiskar/Lebourdais in 2 sets (21-15, 25-23).

After two pro tour events there is a three-way tie atop the men’s leaderboard with Alex Russell, Dan Caverly, and Jonny Wiskar sharing the number one position. On the women’s side, Juliana Kaufmanis owns the top spot, but teammates Quinci Birker and Darby Dunn are just a point behind in 2nd place.
