Team BC boys and girls compete at NTCC Tournaments

The girls National Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) was held in Winnipeg, MB July 15-20, 2014.  The girls had a great start winning their pool 4-0 and only losing 1 set to the Alberta 18U Team.  Their strong pool play gave them a bye to the semi final where they faced a strong Alberta 17U team. They lost 0-3 to the eventual tournament champions.  The bronze medal match was a replay of their pool play vs Alberta 18U and Team BC came out on top again with a 3-0 win.  Coach Ashley Shannik said the bronze medal was their best match of the tournament and that the team showed a lot of character coming back after a tough semi final loss.  Selected to the All Star team was team captain Mieke Dumont.

2014-NTCC-Bronze

The boys NTCC tournament took place in Gatineau, QB. Team BC had a strong showing going 3-1 in pool play with the only loss coming to a tough Ontario Team.  Team BC won their quarter finals match 3-0 vs Manitoba where the team played great and showed a ton of competitive drive to pull out the win. However, Team BC lost in the semis to Alberta 3-1. The sets were all very close, with team bc losing 27-25 in a tight fourth set. They played Team NB for the bronze and won in 3 sets.Coach Matt LeBourdais said that overall, the team has played great, showing fantastic grit, determination, and competitiveness.

Selected to the All Star team were Jordan Foot and Matthew Guidi.  The NTCC tournament was also the selection process for the Team Canada Junior National Team.  Joel Regehr was one of the 14 athletes selected amongst all the athletes at the tournament to the Junior National Team.  A traveling squad of 12 athletes will represent Canada at the NORCECA Junior Championships in El Salvador July 27- August 4.
