2012 Net Height Rule Change

DDC Action Item
2011 Indoor Net Height Change (Female)
The Volleyball Canada Board adopted the DDC recommendation to modify net heights for
2011/2012 National Championships for females to:
2.15m 14U
2.20m 16U
2.24m 18U
Rationale: Females typically experience Peak Height Velocity (largest/fastest growth spurt)
at 12 years old. At 15 or 16 years most Canadian Females are near or have reached adult
height. Raising the net height will encourage correct execution of attacking skills, reduce
the difficulty of receiving serve, increase opportunities to attack the ball on serve reception,
and increase rallies. Top volleyball countries with a similar height distribution in their
population base such as the USA, Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, France and Holland, all have a
net height higher than 2.15m for females at the 16U age category
**New net heights will be applied to the 2011/12 Indoor season. The net height
change is currently NOT recommended for Beach Championships, but is under
review**
